This is Tah Ching.  We were colleague at Philips Design Singapore. While we were there, Francis, Me, PK and TC used to go out lunch time in search of good eats...hahah of course lah..with me around...  When I left, we kept in touch on Sundays roaming around the ulu places. He was one of the "Pioneers" of lovecyclingsg group
If you also like MTB and getting muddy, that kind of thing.. he is ur man!!

TC is a gentleman who had great ideas and design skills. Check out his sketch for my blog. Thanks man!  And he also recently is a proud owner of a Dahon P8 midnight blue. Here are some photos which I took of my friend, TC.  Keep riding, keep smiling!

Safety at Night and my bling bling vest

CWO gear??... no.. this is my bling bling safety vest!
Cycling is fun and when done at night.. the experience is cooling and relaxing. One important element to make the ride safe is lighting. Have at least a front(white) and rear(red) blinkers so that the cars/bus can see u. Some riders think that having more lights means more weight... but I think it is not by much... personally I would like to be as lighted up as a "x'mas tree".  So on my inaugural night group night ride, I brought a long a safety blinking vest,  so that I could act as group sweeper... and while I felt like CWO(correctional work order) I am glad to report it really works! Highly recommend for those who like riding at night...
This vest can be purchased at Gee Hin Chan (GHC), a super old timer shop at Waterloo street. Look for uncle Jimmy or his son Eugene and say hello.  Dun say I not friend.. even put the weblink here...
They are really nice friendly folks who knows quite a thing or two on bicycles and parts. oh... forgot they also have riding session on Sat evening... where? Decide on the spot... go and check them out ok?
So, on the note of riding safely at night, what do u think we can do to make ourselves more visible? Love to hear ur comments.

3rd June night ride 2011

lovecycling crew, lighted by our own lights @ MBS
I don't usually do night rides as by the time I reached home and settle my little momo(I pat her to sleep).. I am usually konk out too... But on 3rd June, I rode from Pungol to meet my friends at Kallang MRT, with Poh huat riding with me. On reaching the meet point I was pleasantly surprised at the turnout... 70 riders!

move off!
Apparently another group - West riders also joined us..Wonderful! After a safety/route briefing by Steve and Zack, the whole group started off around 1150am. We rode around Geylang toward Paya lebar. The roads were relatively quiet and the weather really cool and nice.

Esther and Joeel almost reaching Chomp chomp
We rode as a group blinking lights and some with blaring music setup. Great feeling... seeing all bikes of size and types riding together.

Steven, Tiger and Clarence @ Chomp chomp.. chomping away
from left, Mr Teo, Vincent, Joshua and Papa mike
Very soon, we reached Chomp chomp for a pitstop. Many went for sugar cane juice, some had dessert...I had Wanton noodle from the end store. Nice! Also met Cat and hubby who was waiting for us there. I could see from their faces.. they wanted to join... and I think they will soon!
AMK towards MaryMount road

Blurry eyed.. beautiful night
Zack on Sweeping duties... thanks man!
From Chomp chomp we headed to Ang Mo kio> Marymount road> Thomson road> Novea Square > Newton circus.  Around Marymount road, xalvinkwax  had a small spill on the road...which he looked alright but decided not to continue. KS and Clarence did the gentlemen thing and waited his dad to pick him.  Thumbs up for the lovecycling crew!  We did a short break at Newton circus and then rolled once more toward Scotts road... it was then the heavens opened. Luckily we we near Orchard road and took shelter at Paragon.
James from Australia. Welcome!

Millon dollar view in the morning
It was already 2.3am then.. so it was relatively quiet... goofing around and just chatting to wait out the rain. Half an hour later the rain stop and we cycled toward Bras Besah > Esplande>MBS. Along the way, we also saw some chaps sitting on the kerbside.. puking (drink too much)...also had 6 young man riding MTB joining us for awhile... We ended the ride at MBS...looking at the beautiful night scape...I think we will be doing this soon again.
Distance covered: 65 km
Thanks Zack, Steve, Bernice, Steven, Clarence and other for making this ride a pleasurable and safe experience!

Brompton and me at work

Have a foldable bike is great. You can save transport cost and in my case parking cost. I park my van about  1km from my office where there is free park and literally roll down to my office. :) Best of all, I can also get out at lunch time to explore the office area, for more great food. haha..  It doesnt take up any real space... this is my Brompton M type, with T bag parked under my desk. Go test ride a foldie today!
Roll the Brompton to office.. with T-bag, even easier
Like a puppy sitting beside me... BTW, It is Friday which we can dress like this..

Century riding cream

Century rides.. here I come!
They say experience makes men wiser. I suppose so... Having been thru the "relax" ride from Kluang to SG. I know have a softer side.. My bums that is.... It was so painful and rubbed raw that when I finally reached home and showered... The water was like acid on skin. It took a superman effort not to scream( my gal and CEO was asleep...and u dun want to wake them up) .... Let's just save u the details... Not very pleasant. Oh if u have baby diaper rash cream, I can assure u it works fine to ease the chaffing " fire" ... So wiser now I googled for solutions And I found this review on Century riding cream. I bought one and will try out in tonite ride.... Keep u posted if it really works. Pray for me yah?

Update after yesterday 60km night ride
I applied it and no chaffing! Strange, but works! I will use this from now on. Now need to increase mileage and ride! :) Yes! to more miles!

Smallwheelsbigsmile logo sketch

oldstyle banner and shield SWBS or....
Coconut trees, P&S Camera, spanner and HDB with clothes hanging... + turtle
Friends, I have been thinking of designing a SWBS logo for a cycling tee(dryfit) or some cycling related stuff for sometime now.
Not your usual go fast cycling logo..but more "Ride, Eat, Photo" kind... with a Singapore feel... Appreciate your comments on the logo design and how can I improve it ... and of course would u want to buy one...to support my humble blog?
