How many more have to die before the government relook at the cyclist's situation Singapore? I am not optimistic things will improve for cyclists. What we as cyclists can do now is to simply reduce our chances by staying alert for danger. Be visible and paranoid..... A bit like Russian Roulette... :(

Now taking another hat and coldly looking at statistics. It seems like Cycling is comparably "safer" to motorcycling and walking! I think we are all very emotional and affected about the recent events which 2 lives were lost in 3 days. Additionally I found that till March, 7 cyclists died on the road.....
How can things be improved? Where do we feedback our concerns and are the authorities even concerned about this? Or it is sitting at the backburner"" after the
MRT fiasco and
Ferrari incident

Cold hard facts in Statistics |
Sorry to be direct, but it WILL NEVER end, not as long as there is no gahman intervention. but like I said no money to be made and trust me, when the park connectors are done, they will BAN cycling on the roads.
ReplyDeleteLynten, thanks for ur frank comments. With the recent accidents that happened... I think you might be right. :(
DeleteUnless they also allow cycling on pavements, there is no way they can ban cycling on roads. How will you get to a park connector if you are not living next to one?
ReplyDeleteI also beg to differ that there is no money to be made. Just google for "economic benefits of cycling".
These are what we should be highlighting to the government, instead of taking a defeatist (and thus far highly speculative) view that they will eventually ban cycling on roads.
Pinto, I really wish for a Singapore where Cyclist rights are respected. Me and my friends have been doing our part to promote cycling for all with the lovecyclingsg plattform for over 2 years... But I dun know if it is just me... I am very disturbed by the Ben mok case. It was read after 2 years says alot. A Doctor who claimed not to have seen the cyclists. And now found guilty. 4 weeks jail and 5 year ban from Driving. That's it. What are ur comments?
DeleteDrivers need to see cyclists as fellow road users. Ride safe everyone
ReplyDeletePinto, there is money to be made, but in our 'wise'-"we are not accountable for anything" higher ups, its NOT enough. How are they going to pay themselves???
ReplyDeleteNo one seems to be able to know where all the ERP monies collect go FOR SURE. Trust me, its NOT defeatist, its REALITY......
When I asked a friend who works in the SSC why there is no velodrome in Singapore, he told me that it will be a white elephant but here are the same people who BOLDLY said that we will be in the last World Cup........go figure.
Sorry but are you local? if you are, then I have to apologize up front for being blunt, i ALWAYS am, you need a reality check, that's life here, meaningless and cheap.... for us born here anyway. Defeatist NO, quitter HELL YEAH
hi lynten, i respect that everyone is very emotional over the recent accidents but i think more should and can be done instead of ranting against the current policies. let's not turn everything into a political issue. i have experienced positive encounters with MPs who are willing to speak up in parliament for certain causes, what is needed i suspect, is level headed groups to take this up in the right avenues to get the matter escalated. all of us can do our part - by speaking up, by banding together and approaching the press, the MPs, the people and all concerned.
