The much awaited LCSG 128 km night ride finally came. Photos are all here. Route we took is here.
This time prior the ride, we decided to do it with qualifying timing. Reason being with the last few 128km ride, the groups were strung out very far, which made the sweepers task very very challenging. Over the last 2 months, many"Q" rides were organized by the Westie warriors, Eastie bunnies and also PNR. The Qualifying ride was a 50km under 2.5hrs... and all made it. This training made the transition to 128km so much smoother.
Thanks to Boon Chun... we also have video footage(yeahhh!!) to remember the nice 128 ride!
As the people came in, West Coast Park Mac Donalds was bustling with activities. Those who came later had trouble find parking... so next time come earlier:) Registration was handled ably by Andy and Zack and for Team PNR, Lisa and Tiger did it with min fuss.
Every one was laughing and raring to go! Zack did the safety briefing- obey traffic lights, no beating of red lights and I shared again about the LCSG spirit. This is not a race. We ride as a team, eat as a team and complete as a team.
Andy and Zack manning the registration
Speedy Gonzales team
Speedy Gonzales led by Zack, assisted by Uncle KC and Ming Zhi went first. They skipped many stop s and their first pitstop was at Kranji 7-11. They were so quick that by 2 am, they completed and was thinking if they should do another round... gulp.
Team Wild Boar
Vince doing a great job leading Team Wildboar
Team Wildboar was led by Vince Li, assisted by Louis Lee and Ming Tian. Also made good time and chop chop finish the ride by 3 ish.
Team Turtle
Lighted like Xmas trees.. but for a good reason!
Team Turtle Led by Encik George Lim, assisted by Boon Chun and Boo very rude went on a ride and very very shiong eating expedition. They even stopped at Chinatown in the early morning to have a super duper porridge. Steady lah.
Team Snail
How it looks from the rear
Team Snail was intitally led by Darren Siow who knows the West section of SG very well. Thanks mate for stepping up. Assisted by Desmond Chia, Andy and myself. The team made good time and I was very impressed by the overall cohesion. Ejin Brompton gears was stuck in gear 5 and she still kept on going. Many of us had sore bums but we gamely pressed on. Nice. Even nicer when George Kee drove behind us taking photos and providing some level of safety. Thanks George!
Team PNR 1 and 2 were impressive. With their yellow black jersey combo, walkie talkies and flashing lights... it felt like an army operation. Their smilies and laughter was quite infectious too. Esp when we gathered at the pitstop and chit chat. They were very very prepared, Keng Yong and Edmund drove safety vehicles loaded with drinks. So when the group stopped... the riders could get the hydration easily. Very thoughtful and excellent planning. Well done PNR team!
Overall, I am very impressed by the level of fitness and kampong spirit. Leaving no man behind and riding as a team. Also with the kindness by many folks. GL and his family stood at the Admiralty MRT waiting with bananas at hand.. that was quite a special moment for me. Thank you GL and family!
GL , Peifern and his two Angels.. cheering us on! How cool is that?
The "Q" rides definitely helped and let's keep the LCSG kampong spirit burning proud and strong. Hmmm... maybe we must add more challenge to this event.. maybe KODH section too? hahah. ... rock on!

This Sunday, 29th April we will ride in Paul Lim's memory. Last year same date, Paul and his friends were supposed to ride to Sendil, Malaysia. While the group was travelling on a van towards Changi Village. The van was rear ended by a drunk driver at ECP expressway. The force was so great that it flipped the van and in the process, Paul was thrown out of the vehicle. More of the fateful event here
90 folks will do this ride and special mention are the 9 Carryme riders led by Ro herself. This would be an event that Paul would approve of. Let's do a good, safe ride and have fun. Chiong ah!
爱骑车。爱友谊 << This is from Kim, and is my biggest take away...
80 folks met at ECP Mac to embark on a 128km loop around Singapore. This time, we did it east wards. The route is ECP Mac>> Changi Village>> Punggol>> Yishun>> Sembawang>> Woodlands>> Kranji>> Lim Chu Kang>> NTU>> Jurong West>> Pandan Loop>> West Coast road>> VivioCity>> Lau pak Sat >> ECP Mac. And a bunch of us also continued to Tan tock Seng for the World Hospice Day.
The folks were split into 4 groups to ensure safety and better coordination. They were as follows:
1) Sleepy Gonzales led by Sir KC and Sweeper Zack.
2)Panda group 2, led by Chief Panda Clarence Chang and Sweeper Vince Li.
3) Titanium Butt group 3, led by Titanium butt Chief Patrick Yee and Sweeper Adrianne Lee
4) Flying Turtle group 4, led by Encik George Lim and Master Sweeper Steven lim, Andy Yap and Boo.
First pack started around 8pm with 10 min intervals. We had cooling weather and no rain. The darkness however made it quite difficult for identification and we were very lucky to have Sean and Vince Li sponsor the group, light sticks and blinking straps. To make the event even extra special, David Eng and Joeel worked hard to design and personally made the limited edition glow in the dark stickers. Only for those who rode. Not for sale.

at night... it is good to have plently of blinkers!
Andy and Kimi @ Changi village... sup sup water...
@Kranji 7-11, tired but in good spirits:)
Through out the ride, I could hear shouts of encouragement egging each other on. Music blarring away. Folks sharing all their candies, deep heat, chocolates, power bar. What a team! Everyone looked out for one another. Special mention and really unforgetable was meeting LCSG Angels @ 3am in the morning. They took the form of Steve and Bernice. Waving down the cycling groups and giving out cold 100plus drinks and bannanas. That was so nice of them! When most would be sleeping, they came out of their way to cheer the team.. I am touched by their gestures and I know many too on that day. Thank you Angels!

Don't look like much but it all comes from the heart. That is all that matters
mobile pitstop in the middle of the nite... 3am to be exact!
With the constant chatting and cursing.... we eventually ended the ride at ECP. Thankfully no major incidents and all who completed was on a high. Elaine Pan, smiled and told me... "Backside pain... but feeling very good. I like it! yayyyh" And Joeel, who suffered from knee pain in the middle of the ride... grin and soldered on. It was really a feat of endurance when I saw the pain written on his face. The coolest part... when he arrived... .team turtle lined up and cheered!
Dear, I love u!
Master Sweeper with KSL and Eman
Lastly I want to give my biggest thanks to all leads and sweepers and old birds for looking out for their flock and friends. Thank you very very much for the the excellent sweeping by Steven Lim, Andy Yap and Boo. To ensure that the slower riders could find their way. What a ride and I could hear murmings of ..."this is chicken feed... maybe we combined KODH with 128km!!!" wah lau... u all very hard core... hmm should we or shouldnt we? Tell me what u think? More photos here
Friends....are you and ur steel horse ready? This Sat we will be embarking on a 128 round island ride once again. We start at ECP Mac Donalds 730pm and do the reverse way this time, via ECP -Changi village- Punggol- Yishun - Sembawang- Woodlands- Kranji-Lim chu kang- Jurong- West coast road-MBS inner city area- ECP. Last one in should be by 0730....
To make it even more exciting. We will do another meaningful short ride for world hospice day! This will extend our distance to 168 km which will equal to a century ride! I don't know if we can make it but I promise I will try. Cheer for us and if u see some strange lighted cyclists roaming the roads in the evening and early morning...thats should be us! Wet weather is a high probability, so waterproof ur iphone, wallet and make sure ur bikes are in working order. The clock ticks.... and I await this ride with a bated breath... Rock and roll time!
Last if u are not ready.. check here for Encik George pointers... u got 3 more days! http://www.facebook.com/groups/lovecyclingsg/doc/230161840374505/
"Harrrr, huuuhhh? That's the reaction I get from most people. And then when I say there are also about 70 "normal" riders joining me.. their face will be like ..."harrrr? Next, I shared that many will be doing on "joker" - foldies...their mouths would be wide open. Crazy? Perhaps abit... but I feel that there is a pent up desire from everyone to move out of their comfort zone, push themselves just a little bit. And I am not talking about scaling mount everest. Just a ride around our tiny little dot called Singapore.

http://lovecyclingsg.niceboard.com/t256-slow-and-steady-ride-de-singapore-3rd-july-2011-sunday Folks, 3 weeks to the slow and steady ride de Singapore....All the gear won't help if u don't put in the miles in training... or unless u have a really iron butt... :) Here are some items for ur considerations (thanks Adriane for compiling this) 1 ) Chapping Cream. (Please add in other recommended brands, Andrew I forgot the brand you recommended, please help add it here) http://smallwheelsbigsmile.blogspot.com/2011/06/century-riding-cream.html 2 ) Water bottle +one extra (Although we might be serviced by our "support" team of petrol kiosks, it is best to be self sufficent especially when we get to the northern part of the ride) 3 ) Isotonic drinks or even better powder so you can mix your own on the spot 4 ) Energy bars such as those sold in sports shops or museli bars etc, you can also consider energy gels. Bear in mind we will not be stopping for meals as in sit down and makan. With the amount of cycling we are doing, we NEED to replenish our energy supplies that we are losing rapidly. 5 ) You can also bring things like nuts or dried fruits, dont bring chocolate, it makes you thirsty and will melt in your bag making it one messy cleanup. 6 ) Sun glasses or a cap to shade your eyes 7 ) Sunblock for the sun 8 ) arm covers to prevent sun burn on your extended arms 9 )Helmet and gloves 10 ) Lights 11 ) Handphone that is fully charged and equipped with numbers of ride leaders. 12 ) Money to take cab etc if needed. 13 ) Poncho if you want for rain. 14 ) Spare tube, patch kit and pump. 15) Plasters for blisters, deep heat cream or spray and small first aid kit (Added by Lugerider)
