A heart of gold

Pay it forward. A spontaneous act of kindness which just made me smile.  A heart of gold. Is it really possible in Singapore? Well, I just saw one. The names have been changed (Mr Angel want to be steath) but this is based on a recent encounter in Singapore via facebook.
Kenny is a school boy who doesn't have much spare cash. He meets a cyclo-group who takes him into their fold, mentoring this young chap. Sharing cool cycling tips, safety notes. They ride together and the friendship grows with every ride.
Kenny is growing fast and as a teenager he feels invincible. We have all been there before. Nothing can hurt us, ride like the wind and chiong chiong chiong. Some of the old birds will nag, with all good intention for his safety.
Then I saw this particular thread. "There is a unused bicycle at the void deck, tied on the bicycle rack. Rusted and not used. can I just cut and use it...?"  Warning bells rang and a flurry of posting -  "no and don't do it".  Later in the thread...  "Don't do it. I pass u a bicycle. Its a old one but it works" someone posted.
A very very special ride
The next day, I saw a mega watt smile of  Kenny on a old racer. He is beaming and raving on the bicycle.
Mr Angel just stayed in the shadows. Over a personal pm, he revealed he just wanted Kenny to be in the correct path and not do something he will regret for his life. This is his small way to fullfill a teenage dream. He is just a normal folk, want to just help out. Heart a bit pain as it was his favorite bicycle.
Thank you Mr Angel. For such a nice deed and giving from the heart. You have a heart of gold.

Thanks!

Last week, while resting around on the rides, Kimi came up to me and pass me a nice gift all the way from Thailand.... It was from Mary, Bro AL,Uncle KC, Chris, PapaMike, hong, Steven Tang, Roland, Mr Teo and Kimi... Kimi was sorry that it was a bit delayed but to me I was very touched. What a nice surprise!
As you know they went to Chiang Mai and had a super time. You can read more on their exciting adventures on Bro Al blog - Love the fold . Lots of nice food and slopes. One of the high lights was that they even met up and rode with Chiang Mai Lovecyclingsg equivalent  - aptly named Chiang Mai Sunday Cycling Club, Thailand!!!  I am not a hard core cycle to the death cyclist. I am more interested in the how cycling can connect with all levels of people and of course more opportunties to look around, photo and eat. It makes me very happy to see like minded people at Chiang mai and that thru cycling we can become friends.
Thank you my friends for a thoughtful gift and most importantly the friendships and laughter!
3 treasures.. Momo, Chiang Mai Sunday cycling club and LCSG jersey!

Taking shelter from the Rain - nice

In singapore we don't have winter but we can have 2 season in one day. Super hot Summer followed by the mother of the rain.  To us cyclists that might mean a wet and grimy ride - more so if u don't have fenders.  Some how, riding in the rain is quite relaxing really. Provided u are ready with a poncho(so u don't get drenched and shiver all over)...
I saw this Taiwanese commercial by 7-11 which has a nice dreamy pace...not about cycling but perhaps u can try this in Singapore when u get caught in the rain( Boo, are you reading this haha) Enjoy!

Bicycles changing the world? Yes. It can happen!

This morning I saw this on the internet. Wow! Imagine being a part of this and if Singapore can start to embrace cycling as a real form of transport. Cycling not just lycra, super fit type but for real people. For just moving around. With families, friends and having a good time. Watch this video! And here is Liz Canning website, see how u can be a part of the documentary and do ur bit. Yes, even in Singapore!
