Roadies reflecting on road safety

Sharing this. Not a rant but just a simple video to show the cyclists point of view and advice for staying alive on the roads.

The cycle continues

Keep us safe, please
The cycle continues. A cyclist gets hit, cycling groups rally and feedback to authorities, even writing to PM. Papers will write about it and media will cover. Then in a week or so, it will die down. Will it progress further this time or will it not? Time will tell.
For the moment, under the barrage of feedback.... Dr Faishal have been tasked by Minister Lui to take charge and one of his task is to look directly at road safety and cycling issues. Well at least now, it seems more attention will be focused on SG Cyclists, orphans on the SG roads.
Reflecting on the last few days of activity... I am sad that someone had to die and accident to spur action from our authorities. It could be any of us and if it is your personal friend, you will feel the pain and sorrow even more.  And this is not just for cyclists rights mind you... It is about keeping everyone safe on the road. Attitudes of the motorists, pedestrians need to be addressed.  Finger pointing and ranting will not help. (thank you Alex for sharing that with me)
So what do I think? I find that while discussing on the matter is important.... I strongly feel part of the issue is Empathy. "Walk"/ cycle in our shoes. I have invited Dr Faishal, LTA, TP heads to cycle with normal folks on the roads so that they will feel what we feel daily. This is not a confrontation but a real exercise in understanding the Singapore cyclists plight. After all, this is not new. Minister Lui took the lead and used the MRT to learn about the MRT issues. Let's be open and see how things pan out.

Brompton @ Pertain road

Supposed to spend a day to ride along the Train tracks but life is always present in different manner. My gal was sick and sniffling.. so mission abort and went to see Doc. After that,  I went to Diginexx to have my Brompton checked by the man himself, Steven Lim,  SG Brompton guru. My Brompton headset was abit loose, he helped tighten it in a jffy and gave my bike a look over.... good to roll!  The next appointment was like an hour away.... no problem. i am on a bike! Pottering around little india , waiting for my wife. Found this nice spots of old SG which I like to share. Lovely is it?  More photos here
Yes, the railway tracks and train station will be gone... you know, but there are still many old spots in Singapore. Like ur very own kopi-tiam and aunty who sell poh piah... go lah kopi and savour the feeling.  Chat a little to the aunty and remember their stories, cuz this are the most difficult history to keep. ... ..........
Old building meets old bike... just like old friends
Retro design... they don't make them like this anymore
Traditional 5 footway

Crumbling buildings.. wonder how have lived in here?

wise words from Ben Mok

Found myself thinking of Ben Mok who was tragically run down on 21st March 2010. More on the case here and he was the reason why I attended the ROS 2010.  I didn't get to meet Ben personally but I visited his blog many times to read about riding routes, his epic journeys, complaints, rabblings on life and stuff....
From Ben Mok of pedaldamit.blogspot.com    -- Photo credits Ben Mok
One of the phase he wrote... stuck to me like a stubborn chewing gum on a shoe... " Cycling is like a church — many attend, but few understand "  Chimmm leh..... but really thought provoking...   Why do we ride and keep riding? Is it the bike? The friends? The scenery? The food? The solitude or the aching muscle pain after a long ride? What moves ur mojo?
Lastly, pls do take a moment to remember Ben mok, avid cyclist, blogger and writer.
