Gundam and LCSG!

Hi res photo link of event here.
Lovecyclingsg Sunday ride is an effort to connect with riders. New riders who just started out, who are worried to be riding in traffic and not sure if they can do it.  It been happening for 5 years and last sunday even when weather wasn't too good.  Folks still came to join the ride.

Coolest dog with his boss...  matthew
We started at Orchard MRT station, out side Ion. Matthew brought his VVIP (Max) who is a super friendly cool dog.
We rolled slowly to Takashima to see the Gundam exhibition, but didn't roam around too long as it was drizzling. Quite a sight if love Gundam.

I was told this is the baddie

The bicycle made it very easy to roam round and before we knew it, we were at Scape.

This is the place which did the first bike handling workshop with the help of Simon(lifecycle), Kenneth (Singapore bike school) and of course LCSG angels.

Then I took the folks for a roll to Dempsey road where many cafes and drinking places are located.

This church still look the same
It didn't look like that 15 years ago. Do you know that Dempsey road used to be the place for National Service and army folks adminstration? Here's the history behind the place  .
For myself, my memories are Singapore Junior flying Club. This is the place I spend a lot of my secondary school days building balsa planes, crashing them and rebuilding them. I was actually quite good at it. And for awhile I actually taught aeromodelling to kids. Good fun but tiring. More on this link. Hmmm maybe I should return to this and teach once more :)

It rained quite abit... so we went to have a bite
P1090238
The rain was coming down quite heavy at Dempsey and I cut short the ride and headed toward the comfort of Holland village food market. We had breakfast and then Andy led the way to Blk 8 where there was an art initiative by Social Creatives.
The idea is to bring art to the neighbourhood. Expose children and all on art and the believe that art should be everywhere. Its a very nice and noble idea and I salute their efforts.

This is why I like to attend Lovecyclingsg sunday rides. There is always a place I did not know or see. And they are all right here at our own "backyard". Waiting to be explored and appreciated.
Combined with a folksy easy going attitude, the group continues to pull in new folks every week. Interested? Don't worry... we don't bite. Come and ride with LCSG. Its really an amazing experience!

LCSG 2011 presentation - what is LCSG and what we do?

As the team grows, I get asked many times why I do LCSG and it was time to share in a more efficient manner then la-ing kopi to explain. I felt it was also appropriate that we celebrate the wonderful rides we did and many interesting stuff we are doing. So on 8th Jan Sunday after a easy City ride... we met at Fort Canning Gallery to share with the crew about LCSG.  Lovecyclingsg would not have been possible without the efforts of some very passionate and helpful folks. Andy yap, Clarence, Boo to name afew.  To make it extra special, I selected some photos of them in action with a nice "certificate"  This is from all of LCSG riders to the real heros. These are the slides that was shared....

2012 and LCSG

First ride of 2012 @ monkey alley, upper pierce reservoir
It has been a busy year for me. Most happy achievement is to have Lovecyclingsg growing and seeing all having fun. Now many asked why do I even bother. We don't charge for the rides even though it is great fun.
Food will always remain intergal part of LCSG rides!
I call this my next stage of "national service" and I am proud to share with all the normal, unassuming stuff in our lives. Things we take for granted and don't even notice.  Like the old neighbour  hood, Wanton noodle, Tao hweh store and "ulu ulu" (inaccessible) places that u will never considered going. LCSG provides good opportunity to see and meet people from all different walks of life. Bonded by the love of cycling and promote cycling for everyone. Literally we can see all bikes types and brands on all our ride. Doesn't matter what you ride but that you ride. Let's keep it this way. Simple and all welcoming.  Riders becoming friends and forming relationships. Such are so precious and beautiful moments.
Glad to have my friend Layyen join LCSG after a long consideration... go go go Layyen!!
Thank you for taking this journey with me and helping out along the way. Together,  let's make 2012 and even happy and fun year!

Goodbye Henry! Tribute to a fellow LCSG kaki

Henry smiling @ Desaru
Sir Henry with his very cool SEVEN MTB!!
laughing and sweating... after the cool ride!
This is a tribute to one of our cycling Kaki, Mr Henry Lam who passed away yesterday. Quiet and reserved. Henry would join our rides, all decked up in very cool gear and bikes. I remembered once we decided to "turbo" and go full out at the Changi coastal road.  I was on my moulton and Henry was directly behind drafting with his Seveb MTB. Followed closely by Clyde Teo. Huffing and puffing as one.... "Dun mind I draft u hor?" Henry hollered behind.. and we just rolled and rollde.. that was one heck of a ride! Reaching the end point, some of our MTB/roadie friends were quite shocked we actually arrived so quickly. The effort took its toll on us. Clyde simply fell off his bike and panted on the grass, wah lau... so tiring..
Henry and myself were gasping for air, sweat all over our faces... But big grin and smiles. Shiok arhh.. :)  That was on 26th June 2011, Road Safety workshop
Henry, it is a pleasure to meet and ride alongside you! You will be missed by all our fellow LCSG cycling kakis!
ps: Memorial services will be held at Blk 234A Serangoon Ave 2 on 28 and 29 Oct at 8pm. Cremation on Sun Oct 30 at 345pm Mandai Hall 4. Cortege leaving 245pm"

From Other LCSG kakis
Andrew wan: "You shared a joke about your experience with Rodalink, on how they mixed up your enquiry for Shimano cycling shoes that turned out to be Shimano fishing shoes instead. Hope you'll find sometime to wear them in Heaven. :) RIP, my friend."
Diane:" This is Henry on the day I met him. I remember him because he helped me fix my chain. He had the deepest laugh lines, I knew at once that he was a kind soul. Rest in peace dear friend."
Kimi :Cant remember when was the last ride i had with Henry..but i remember clearly during the ROS ride, Henry was there with Julia and we were still chatting on how many bikes he had...also abt his new BF bike...he was supposed to come along with us for the pengarang as well as the Bintan ride....gosh...life is just so unpredictable & vulnerable....sighs....My deepest condolences to the family....
Mr Teo: “Bro Henry, Sad to know that we miss you for we share the same passion, we are in the mid of setting up our llama to ride with you. Mine Deepest Condolence.”
Clarence Chang:” Dear Julia, i am shock and sad but My Deepest condolences to you and ur family....Dear Henry, it is my fullest pleasure riding with u and share joke with u.....you will be missed .Rest In Peace....”
Francis Chu ‎Julia Lam, I will miss Henry's kind smile. I met him last month and had SMS exchange with him last week. He is always gentle with a sense of humor, even when he is not in his best
physically condition. My condolences to you and your family.
Michael Khaw My condolences to you, Julia Lam and your family. Henry will be dearly missed by many...
Lim George I know Henry way back when we were riding MTB. Lost contact till we meet agains during LoveSG ride. My Deepest condolences to his family.

Bicycle with a soul...Really? Zun bor?

BF and Brompton in harmony, for once :)
Cyclist are an interesting lot. When it comes to their bicycles it would invariably invoke strong feelings and brand loyalty. What comes to my mind is Brompton and bike Friday. To me both are good bikes and it baffles me to see the tension and big arguments on cyberspace and kopi talk.... It is like comparing Ferrari and porsche. In my humble opinion, both are good but they ride different and look different.
Some proponents (of BF or Brompton) will cite the fold, theirs the best, heritage and how the bikes are about handcraft(I am guilty of that too) and really does that matter?
I sometimes find myself "overselling" the bicycles and gear. Especially to the non-cycling friends and community. In their minds they must be thinking "wah lau...2K leh...can buy motorbike and u tell me ur bicycle cost so much, Zun bor? Inside got gold is it? What you talking about soul?"  I am sure they like to know how and why do such innate tubes and rubber become such passion of desire? What goes in the minds of these people - like me...
Bicycle with a soul? Or perhaps what I am talking about "soul" is in the conversations while riding, feeling the cool breeze. La-ing kopi and chatting over all kinds stuff. Although it is small talk...it has the magical power to bond. And I love it!  So what moves ur mojo so to speak? I like to know....
FYI, this is my first entry using the iPad, edited abit on macbook pro(typing is faster) :)

Boo, small chili padi with her trek MTB

Boo @  the Marina barrage
Steven Tang and Queen Boo
Boo was kinda of the first few riders out of the "design" circle. We actually met for the first time on the Singapore National Stadium/ Marina barrage ride. Sorry I can't show u the stadium as it has already been torn down to bits... That was really a nice ride. We sneaked in and explored National Stadium up close and personal...  Initially I thought she was a bit "Atas"= snob... But turns out she is very nice, helpful and chirpy. She also helps out on Safety and marshal when ever she can.
Boo rolling over anything that comes...

For a while she was out, holidaying in Sydney Australia and we all missed her. Well, now Queen Boo has returned! Yay!!!... She even led a Sunday ride to see the Changi monster guns,  which was very well done. Boo recently also acquired an old roadie which has the most eco friendly mud guards made from PET bottle...that is some thing u got to see up close and personal.
Boo, very nice meeting u, thanks for all the efforts to keep the rides going! Go go Sunday rides!
