I have owned this Moulton TSR 30 for close to 10 years.
Here is it, used for rambling along the Punggol PCN.
Its a nice comfortable ride, the most compliant bike I have. The frame is amazingly rigid but with the suspension, u don't get jolted until ur teeth fillings come out. This is a design classic that stands the rigours of time. You don't find too many of them here but there are some in Singapore.
And yes, i do take care of my bikes and give them a polish once in a while. :)
here is a place where I can share my bike experiences and all things related...Ride on!

Moulton TSR front rack
Taken off Diane FB around 2012. These photo shows how the TSR front rack works with the Ortlieb front rollers. The bike rolls as good as then and the bags are good. Rained on so many times and they work fine.

Ready or not? Here we go
"eh... tomorrow want to ride? " |
Tomorrow we ride for Paul Lim. Now 128km can be a piece of cake for some but to most of us weekend cycling warriors and LCSG-ers it is abit on the long side. No matter and I know we will be able to make it. Double water bottle filled, Tires check, patch kit, levers, handpump, inner tubes, power gel, snacks... all checked. Zip tie the awesome Paul ride design on my bike. Lube it all up and did a test ride to check all is in working condition. Ready.... set....
yes, I cheated.. I took out my Plechser stand to reduce weight.. |
Mounted a foam board to read the directions... so I don't bring team 4 to holland |
Spare tube, potato chip, power gel, candy, rain coat |
Toolkit and levers checked |
Swapped to my trusty Lezne pump.. not as sexy as the carbon one but this pumps faster, better. |

Packing Mr AM for Taiwan trip
Next Sat morning we will embark on our eagerly awaited Taiwan trip. Starting from Puli, we will make our way up to Qing Jing farm and later on to Wu ling. It is one of the highest mountain as I understand from George Lim, our team leader who recced the route on his trips to Taiwan. We kinda of prepared for the trip by cycling Mount Faber and some other ant mount in Singapore...see the "proof"... haha..
Some of us even changed to Triple cranks in an technical effort to flatten the Wuling Mountain... Well, ready or not.. we are going....
Now, actually the biggest task for me is how to transport Mr AM to Taiwan. I have never brought a full-sized bicycle and usually take a Brompton or Carryme which packs very easily. Mybikeshop kept a stock Moulton cardboard box for me.. and Kian Lin just said...."simple one.. just loosen the stem and turn handle bar... Kow tim(ok)..." Well, it took longer than that... mostly due to my inexperience in packing... After 2 hours.. I made everything fit. Google is usually our best friend if you need answers... but Alex moulton is quite a rare and not much infor on packing can be found on line... So I just did it... with more advice from Chris and George..... Here's some work in progress.... I waiting to pack my cycling clothes in... then it is all system go!
bring outside my home.. easier to work.. |
Size 15 spanner .... remove pedals |
Also degreased the chain... |
Front Mud guard off |
Front fork spacer fashioned using spare bits of rod and skweer... I also make anti crush box inside the box... KS |
learnt at Mekong trip how Chris used zipties to hold the loose bike parts... I like.. I copy |
bubble wrap and ziptie... |
test fit ... alamak.. handle bar packed too high ... take out.. |
Reposition... should fit now.. |
It fits!! |
Almost.... cycling clothes, helmet in.. done!! |

"Previously my Sundays were spent over languid breakfasts and kiting in the afternoon. And it’s this group of kiting kakis that helped rekindle cycling for me. Turns out, some of them have been at it for quite some time.
A morning ride through the lovely Punggol waterway on a friend’s bike allowed me to see how convenient it is to ride about Singapore via the PCN networks and how the Government has invested in beautifying these areas of sport and leisure.
Several names were tossed about by my kiting kakis. I had to weigh factors like performance, portability and design. Smaller wheeled bicycles quickly drew my interest as I used to associate them with the more senior/domestic demographics. It quickly dawned on me that they could easily keep pace in terms of speed and performance with regular bikes.
Moulton was one of the names that was suggested by my friends. My first glimpse of the gorgeous truss-like space frame left me smitten. This lovely geometry of strength and lightness appealed to me on many levels. Moulton’s heritage coupled with its industrial chic frames spoke to my sense of aesthetic.
While scouring the Net for more information, I stumbled upon TaiWoon’s MoultonSingapore blog. There I found some links to Japanese custom shops. I have a soft spot for all things Japanese and customization options are always a plus. In no time I had saved several images of custom-made Moultons to ogle from. I also sent an email to one of these shops enquiring about the custom process, time and cost implications. Unfortunately, the waiting list was about a year.
Fast forward and after several test rides on different bikes and some friendly nudges in the right direction, I’m now a proud owner of a Moulton AM20. It comes stocked with parts that more than make up for my current lack of leg power.
The icing on the cake comes in the form of the Love Cycling SG group that my former kiting kakis introduced me to. This group of dedicated individuals invest their personal time and effort into planning and organizing these weekly rides for a huge herd of cyclists. This passion also extends to the safety and fun factor of these rides. Cycling with my kakis and/or the LCSG group is really what makes me feel best about getting a bike. " - Gabriel Yeap

My very own Moulton TSR
Originally a TSR 9, now is TSR20! |
Moulton looking at our laundry |
Space frame and cross link front suspension |
old school handle bar by Soma |
Specially built for my relaxed kind of riding by the folks from My Bike Shop (Tan, Kian Lin and Jai- thank you very very much!). Featuring on control area - a Soma sparrow old school handle bar, with flatbar shimano shifters. For the cranks and derailuer, they are Shimano famed Ultegra range which makes the shifting so buttery smooth and shiokkkk. It just rides like a magic carpet(for me)... but still need to pedal and the slopes are still tough haha :) This is not a rational bicycle and I will not even try to justify it's existence... the feeling is just very unique ride. I will stop blabbering..... and here are some photos of my new handsome burgundy friend.
More photos here
Oh, I forgot... I like to know what would be a good name for him? I guess I am getting mad...
