This is my little momo riding the YBike Glider. She is reaching 5 years old soon and getting good at this scooter thing.
The smooth bearings and bigger PU wheels makes this a great scooter to zip around. It rained today so we couldn't really have fun at the playground. Never mind, skating around the void deck is fine too. This is one fast scooter and if u are intending to get one for your child, make sure you start them at a safe flat area. Learn how to stop and turn safety. Overall, it is a great scooter and Momo loves it. Your child will have lots of fun too!

CETMA Cargo bikes, are we ready for it?

Recently I have been trying to find ways to bring my little girl and wifey along for the sunday rides and trying to make more family-time while enjoying cycling. I think the answer might be Cargo bikes. So with google... here is one of the site I found . The biggest challenge now is as I live in Singapore HDB apartments, access to my home is by a lift which is about 2.4 m height. So if the cargo bike can be dismantled by quick release.. it would be perhaps something compelling in Singapore... hmmm. Cargo bikes, do u think Singapore is ready for it?

Bike share and cars. Musings from a pungolian :)

I am a parent of a lovely 4 year old and live in the heartlands of pungol. It is a beautiful place and great for cycling. Recently my buddy Francis shared with me his bikes share concept he have been thinking and designing for sometime. Personally, I think it is cool and bicycles could be part of a overall transport solution. But it is not the "silver bullet" that can solve everything. There is an issue of the "the last mile" where people are finding it difficult to reach their desired location, ie home, work, meeting points. I am talking about the mass transport means in SG like MRT, bus systems. I know and very hearten to hear that plans are under way to improve the mass transport but the "fire" is already burning. As such,commuting cycling(if there is this term) athough it is quite hazzardous are also beginning to get more popular in Singapore. I know of a few riders cycling to work, in comparison with none 3 years ago.
In all this changes happening, what is being done for the new parents? I hear with great dread that our transport minister is planning to reduce the quota of cars. Quoted"we can't grow the car population so fast.... " to me it equals to even crazy car prices putting them out of reach of the common folks. For the well heeled, it doesn't really matter. It is a pinch but still ok. I find it sad cuz we are using simply COE and cash to sort out who can own a car. If u don't have money, sorry lor. Take mrt, bus. I just want to share that if u have a baby, little children, or elderly folks. Try taking the mass transport.Dun get me started on taxi booking,try it on peak hours.... It is impossible. I know we are all bicycles lovers, I am one. But frankly my friends, cars have a place in our society. I hope that the cars entitlement caters not just for people with money, but also have a consideration for the needs.For families with little children or elderly. Perhaps it can promote more couples to start their families.
If there is any country that can do it, I think is ours. Comments?

    A family that plays together, stays together. Eddie, Sandy, Marcus and Kenneth is a very cool example of this mantra. I first met them at the first Kranji ride in dramatic conditions. It literally poured just before the start of the ride.. "Erh, maybe u like to wait it out or do this next time" I suggested to Eddie. But the garang family followed me in the rain all through out the ride.... it was amazing to see the boys in action and mummy in tow.  Here are some shots of them in action... Keep on spinning!

Kranji ride - 27th March 2011- Photo account

Good morning Kranji!

I am 4 and I ride!

This is 2nd time visiting Kranji. The first being 17th Oct 2010 which we had quite a heavy rain at the start. My prayers were answered...maybe too much.. It didn't rain and was extremely sunny for the whole ride. Andy also brought bean curd for the riders at the start point. which was really nice of him!

We got new folks joining us like Kenneth who rides solely a roadie but bought a 2nd hand Dahon for Sunday rides.  Teo KL who rode his Raw Brompton M equipped with Carandice bags and Andrew loh riding with us - finally. I am also glad to see Bay, Eddie showing that cycling can be a great way of family bonding.  Impressive!

Riding to Kranji war memorial was easy... just 1km from the Kranji MRT. The hairy part of the ride for me was old Kranji road towards the Reservoir. There was so many cars and trucks on a Sunday morning!  Despite of the challenging road conditions, regulars like Andy, David, Clarence, Francis, Andrew help to create a buffer zone so that newbies and younger rides can feel more comfortable. I find that also riding as a group helps to create a bigger road "signature" which means cars are more conscious of our presence and give us more space. 

Bollywood veggies was the stop point for breakfast and I had their signature Curry and prata. This time the food wasn't as good, but the environment and friendliness of staff more than made up for it. Ivy also popped by to meet the group and very graciously gave our riders a free tour of the farm. After the meal,  Dillion,our farm guide gave an extensive explanation of the farm and plants. Really worth another visit again.
Hay Daries was the next stop follow by Lim chu kang jetty and then Armour camp tank. By then, the weather was heating up and together with the slopes, it was quite challenging for some... tongues sticking out...complaining and groaning.... Slowly, surely we made it back to Kranji MRT. Lovely ulu Kranji ride! Let's go there sometime again?
