cycling is not new in Singapore!

  1. in the 1950s, when the above photo was taken, my dad (a primary school student back then) was cycling between kampungs in Singapore to sell things.

    in Song Seng Chan bike shop, there is a very old black & white official group photo of the bicycle traders association (can't remember the exact association name/wording) of Singapore. think this shop has been in the Joo Chiat area for about half a century already, although the current location is not the original one.

  3. found this on Google - seems like Song Seng Chan has been in business in Joo Chiat for almost 80 years: http://pictures.nl.sg/b52c3da4-5dae-4fbf-acb4-78a44f474ced.aspx

    do talk to the uncles - maybe worth doing an interview? & look out for their cash register (think it's older than i am) & other 'antiques' around the shop. wonder if they have more old photos to show.

  6. I found out from the uncles in Song Seng Chan that the shop was started by their grandfather since 1932!
